Have you got space in your life and home to support an adult ?
Do you have the right personal qualities of kindness , compassion and intrest in people and their lives ?
We are looking for people to provide sessions either daytime or evening , we call this sessional support.
We are also looking for people who could offer sleep overs or mini breaks for those who need some support to try something new. This is also a wonderful way to offer carers a break knowing their loved one is in a home they are used to visiting and with people they have built a relationship with.
We all need to feel connected to home , family and friends and you could offer this to individuals who may be more isolated and lonley or others who are just starting out in their adult lives and simply need another adult to be there for them as they develop their confidence and establish connections for themselves. Or perhaps your skills lye in supporting a person with dementia to maintain their connections and intrests.
We are support a growing number of people who are all unique with different intrests , ambitions and and as diverse as the people providing support. Our support workers come from all walks of life and share the desire to work creatively and with compassion to support people to improve aspects of their lives and flourish in whatever they wish to do.
Our approach is all about building long term relationships based on mutual intrests and a shared sence of humour and an understanding of the brilliance of learnign about the uniqueness of us all.
We are looking for people who enjoy welcoming people into their homes and sharing ordinary activities or going out and about exploring.
Shared Lives Shetland offers highly personalised support of the highest quality where you are invited to bring your intrests , your kindness , your hobbies and enjoy giving something back.
Shared Lives Shetland offers a few hours a week (day support) to overnight stays (short breaks) you can do one or the other or both ! and in the longer term we are looking for people willing to provide a long term home (long term arrangement) for an adult.
We have been supporting people for over 18 months now and our registered workers have increased in number an now are in the teens. Many are working a number of days a week, with others working some evenings or one day that fits in with their other life commitments. This offers a way of taking control of your working life whilst enjoying the support of the experienced team leads and the autonomy of this self employed opportunity.
Sharing your intrests and sharing your home and community
Is nature your thing ? or Art , gardening , cooking , music and dancing or is woodwork you passion?
Perhaps you have a garden or hen run , a tool shed , a poly tunnel, nearby beach or drum kit ?
Or do you have space to bake , a comfy chair for knitting and reminiscing ?
Sharing walks, joining classes together at the leisure centre, going to local events and getting involved in local volunteering and activities are all part of the matched and sharing of community activities.
Other people will favour the quieter environments of story telling , photography , cooking and crafts and these are valuable activities when matched to intrests.
Shared Lives Shetland is about helping people lead their best life by having choice and control,
to increase well being, build confidence and independance.
